Review: Noga Erez @ The Joker

Following her unforgettable Great Escape show last May, Electro-Pop artist Noga Erez returned to Brighton as part of her Autumn European tour.

On arrival to The Joker’s upstairs venue, we found a small crowd gathered by the stage watching support act Moonoversun- and it looked like there would be a very small turnout for Noga Erez, coming all the way from Israel to promote her debut album “Off the radar”.

Much to our relief, it got more and more crowded as more people arrived, and it began to feel like there was a real following here. The room quickly filled as Noga took to the stage wearing a nicely pieced together, slightly see through black outfit aside from her vibrant red trainers, aptly contributing towards the general vibe of the futuristic sound the group creates. Backed by Ori Rousso and Ran Jacobovitz using beat and sample pads, they began with an Intro and straight into the flow of the set with “Toy” – a slow and deep tune from “Off the Radar” – quickly followed by “Be Nice” and “Noisy”.

A few words were shared with the crowd and then straight back in with “Muezzine”, captivating the audience with her stage presence and eye contact, it was clear that Noga is an artist with passion and something to say. There was great interaction with the group as they power through their carefully constructed and entrancing songs.
Finishing with “Dance while you shoot” – a robotic and Trap esque tune, the crowd were clearly enjoying what Noga and band had to offer.

As most of the people filtered out, Noga joined the ones that stayed for a quick meet and greet by the merchandise stand, right before the band moves on towards the rest of their Autumn tour.
