JunkSoupArt

Who is JunkSoupArt?
I am an artist living in Brighton and I was diagnosed with high functioning autism a few years ago at the grand old age of 45.

What do you do?
I create sculpture and collages from other peoples junk. I love the idea of creating what, would hopefully be called art, from materials that others consider useless. Most of my junk is picked up from Brighton beach but also during trips around the UK in my camper van.

How would you best describe yourself?
I like to think that I am an undiscovered genius trapped in the body of a socially inept geek.

Where can I find your work?
Since my autism diagnosis, I have begun to gain confidence in trying to sell my work. I began at local craft fairs but even with support from friends, I found the strain of being around people all day too much to cope with. I took the plunge and opened my etsy shop at www.junksoupart.etsy.com and have been amazed and touched by the response to my work.

With the support of creative future, I took part in Brighton open houses earlier in the year, which was a very positive, if slightly surreal experience. My work has been published 3 times in the Big Issue magazine.
