Review: Undersound new single ‘No More Shooting Stars’

Multi-talented Welsh musician Gareth Evans, AKA Undersound, explores a new lo-fi inspired frontier with his latest track No More Shooting Stars.

Evans, whose musical accolades range from supporting ska legends Reel Big Fish to composing original scores for various theatre productions, creates a multi-layered track that is both euphoric and laid-back.

The track expertly layers vocal harmonies with a varied soundscape of synth, bass and keys which gradually build on top of each other in a composition which is deceptively deep and complex whilst remaining smooth listening. Covering tricky subject matters and dark thoughts lyrically, Evans creates a track many can relate to but keeps a relaxed vibe.

No More Shooting Stars is just a glimpse of the spectrum of creativity this artist is capable of and an excellent intro to the new Undersound album of the same name. It is easy to see why he can count Adam Walton at BBC Wales and Radio 1 DJ Huw Stephens, as well as possibly members of The Royal Family, among his fans.

Our verdict: This is a track which could easily be on repeat for hours before you get the urge to hit ‘next’.
