Gallivan – I Hope This Crashes EP

Gallivan band Brighton musicThere is something fun about this EP. I can’t quite put my finger on it. Something that reminds me of a circus side show. It’s the kind of rock that you can jump around to. I tried jumping around to it in my room but it didn’t quite capture the essence it deserves.

The second track King was a real highlight for me. It has attitude, punchy guitar stabs, and a sort of ‘come and have a go if you think you’re ard enough’ mentality. Basically the kind of track that would not sound out of place during a fight scene in a Guy Ritchie movie.

My favourite track however is reserved for Nighttime. The clean guitar riffs show some of the more diverse sounds the band have. It lacks the energy of King, but this is expected, as it replaces attitude with subtlety. Too often with young Brighton bands you cannot tell one song from the next, but Gallivan were a pleasant surprise in this field.

Verdict: All in all Gallivan show diversity and excitement in this EP. I recommend grabbing a few friends and jumping around to it, because doing it on your own does not do them justice. I look forward to hearing more from this 5 piece in the future.
